MetaRoc	How I found the Urantia Book... Feb 10 2009, 6:41 PM EST I found the UB in 1979, while living in Lahaina, on the island of Maui,Hawaii... A friend Eve, pulled out the UB, started reading it at random, while we were high, from smoking da kine, great Maui buds... it was a really mind blowing experience... at the time I thought it was very mystical... I haven't smoked buds for over 20 years now, I'm high on life... reality, what a concept... I can not imagine a life without the UB, it is such a major part of my life... I thank God every day, for giving me the Urantia Book... I have been in study groups for over 20 years... I am currently enrolled in the urantiabookschool.org provided free by the Urantia Foundation, and part of the group SPAD on ubron.org that reads 6 pages a day, at that rate we read the UB every year... I listen to the UB on my ipod and computer... this year I have listened to 100 papers already and its only February, way beyond 6 pages a day, i love it so much... Feb 10 2009, 7:47 PM EST When I was attending an engineering college many eons ago, I had a class in philosophy; while we were studying the philosophy of religion, the professor gave us an assignment to read a few pages about the nature of God in the Urantia Book. He had placed some copies in the school library. I got hooked and spent the summer semester reading the book. After that, I attended a weekly study group at his home for five years. workman34	2. RE: How I found the Urantia Book... Feb 10 2009, 10:50 PM EST A couple years back, worklady and I where at the book store browsing around. For some reason the word “Urantia” kept popping into my head. Years ago, I caught something on TV about the Urantia book. At the time it didn't peek my interest and I put it out of my mind. I don't think I ever gave it another thought until that day we where in the book store. The only thing I new about it was what they called, “The Alien Bible” It was probably a “Strange Universe” episode like the one MetaRock has on the site. For some reason, I had to have it. We checked with the clerk and after we figured out how to spell Urantia, they had one in stock for $41.00. Worklady kindly put her book back on the shelf so I could afford it. I started reading it as soon as we got home. Sadly to me, it was to complex for me to understand and I only read the first chapter. For me, in comparison to wading threw thick mud is what it was like mentally. I didn't pick it up again for another six months. Feb 11 2009, 12:01 AM EST Workman, I too found the beginning of the book very hard to understand at first, reading one page over and over, and not getting it... I later read that, in gods universe, they teach the most difficult parts first, it gets progressively easier, as you go, and that's just how the ub is too... A question would pop into my head about something I could not understand and as I read for a few more moments my question would be answered. As I read threw the book, I was sure that by the time I got to the end I would get some kind of experience, like an Angel visit or something like that. So far, nothing has happened, but I felt as though my mind was being rewired or something as I read threw big blue. I couldn't sleep very well for months afterward. All I could think of was what I had read and how it had changed my whole perspective on life and of God. Post reply Do you find this valuable?

Feb 13 2009, 11:23 PM EST Hey folks, first thanks for your stories , as always intriguing. . . next according to UB legend the book was dictated over a number of years to the original Forum members and closely resembled a question and answer format which accounts for that very common experience of having a question come up on one page and get your answer on the next. I guess human minds operate in very similar ways at least within each of the different mental circuits available for our use. My own discovery of the UB began while babysitting for a single mother in dire need of a break . Next to the rocking chair and baby bottles was this big blue brick of a book in French. After putting the child to bed I began leafing through this impressive tome of what I surmised was some new cult's indoctrination manual. I figured an hour or two and I'd have good arguments for the mother upon her return to cast this book into the fire. The first paper I read was one of the Adam and Eve chronicles and by the time she came home I had read two more papers. Suffice it to say I was speechless and only asked her where she had gotten it. Over the next few weeks I babysat a few more times and soaked up a few more papers each time thinking I'd find the linchpin that once exposed would bring the whole edifice down. This copy disapeared with its owner some days later and it was to be nearly six months before I saw another copy. A bassist friend of mine worked part-time in a bookstore and since I was once again between jobs and in a spiritual quandary given my recent separation , job loss and moving into a very small apartment, that I asked him to help me find something I could really sink my teeth into and that would keep me busy all winter if possible . He hadn't read it but believed the store had a copy of just the thing. Now 55 dollars was a substantial sum for me at that point in time but I decided to buy the UB anyway, I still haven't debunked it yet!!! lol Post reply 1 out of 1 found this valuable. It looks like your friends TA was at work as well. I know, I know. our TA's and Angels are always hard at work, but we don't always pay attention to what they are telling us. . SPIRITVIEW	7. RE: How I found the Urantia Book... Feb 28 2009, 10:14 AM EST I am so pleased to find fellow readers of the Urantia Book...especially in this interactive wetpaint environment. The Urantia Book was introduced to me over 35 years ago by a very inspiring friend (Nathaniel)who drifted in and out of my life but left lasting impressions and of course the Urantia Book..which I have studied off and onn thoughout the years. I am pleased to report that I reunited with my friend just last month (December 2008) and we are continuing on as if no time has past. I have found Urantia Readers few and far between in my travels.... I broke my leg several years ago ...it "grounded me long enough to read/studyboth the Urantia Book and the Bible from Cover to Cover. Before then, I'd open them up (randomly) and read that which I felt my higher self wanted me to know at the time. That "down time' reading turned out to be a great blessing and another upward turning point in my life... My new/old recently discussed the "Life and teachings of Jesus", a close but much more believable story than those filtered through the Bible. What a gift...He'd held off reading it until just a few months before we re-unitied (online). I am not knocking, nor comparing the Bible..it is full of truth, widsdom and compassion....however the Urantia Book is AWESOME in the way it lays out the Universal Picture and how all "plays" together...Of couse with all such books one must listen to their inner voice for that which "RINGS TRUE FOR YOU". Feb 28 2009, 3:50 PM EST Welcome to the family of spiritual questers here assembled, Newly jobless, recently separated from wife and child, bleak winter of Moncon N.B. approaching and in need of a new paradigm in the worst way . . . babysitting for a single mother to get my fix (I was the house-husband for the first two years of my daughter's life) a French copy of the blue Tubby beside the rocker, I read some three or four papers to debunk it but well 25 years later I'm hard at work trying to apply its teachings and share the real gospel, sonship and ascension in and through the Father! Several years later, in 1979, I was studying with the Ancient Mystical Order of Rosicrucians (AMORC) and living in the town of Lahaina on the island of Maui, when a friend, Linda Gray, started telling me about the Urantia Book. I was always a seeker of truth and I began to read it. For several years thereafter I also studied Unity and Science of Mind. I even converted to Mormonism in 1981, and after the Mormons confiscated my Urantia Book, I bought another one. For a while I tried to incorporate into my philosophy a little from each of the different teachings. But as I continued to read the Urantia Book, more and more I realized that, for me, this was as close to the truth as anything I had ever studied. Being a mystic, this realization was not easy for me to accept. My greatest battle was in letting go of the concept of reincarnation, in which the Rosicrucians strongly believed. For years I struggled with this. I really loved the AMORC as it had taught me to be open to the truth. I had even moved to San Jose to be closer to the Order, and I studied at the Rosicrucian University. But finally I arrived at an unswerving belief in the teachings of the Urantia Book. The book always spoke to my heart and it continues to do so. Once, just for fun, I took a calculator and the calendar and checked the accuracy of the days and dates mentioned in Part IV. They all proved to be correct. That did it for me. Now the Urantia Book is the foundation for my beliefs.
